AI SEO Expert in the United Kingdom
I'm Gaurav Singh Mehra, a freelance SEO consultant working with UK businesses from London to Leeds. Ten years in search, 200+ projects, and one focus: turning organic visibility into enquiries you can actually bank — on Google, and now inside AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity too.
Judge the work first. Pay only when you’re satisfied.
No payment up front. I’ll work on your site for the first one to two weeks — audit, quick fixes and a written plan — and you decide whether it’s worth having. If it isn’t, there’s no invoice and you keep every improvement.
We agree the target
A short call on what a good quarter looks like for your business. Then I begin — nothing invoiced.
You see the first fortnight
Audit findings, fixes already shipped, and a plan naming the pages and terms we’re chasing.
You decide
Satisfied? We agree terms that suit you. Unconvinced? No invoice, and the work stays yours.
Why UK businesses are rethinking who they trust with SEO
An AI SEO expert in the UK does two jobs at once: earning conventional organic rankings on Google, and making sure the brand is quoted when someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation instead. The underlying craft — crawlability, relevance, authority, evidence — is the same. What has changed is that a well-optimised page can now be summarised, cited and bypassed inside the same result, so the work has to account for both outcomes deliberately.
Britain is an unusually punishing place to compete for search. Google takes roughly nine in ten UK searches, so there is no meaningful second channel to fall back on. Legal, insurance, finance and private healthcare carry some of the highest cost-per-click figures in Europe — which is precisely why organic visibility is worth so much here: every position you hold is an advertising invoice you never receive. And with AI Overviews now appearing across UK results, a share of that hard-won traffic is being answered before anyone reaches a website at all.
Then there’s credibility. Much of British commerce is what Google calls YMYL — money or health. Solicitors answer to the SRA, financial firms to the FCA, clinics to the CQC. The shortcuts still sold as SEO elsewhere are unusable here: named authors, verifiable credentials and honest claims aren’t a nice-to-have, they are the ranking strategy. I’m an independent consultant, not an agency — the person reading your Search Console is the one writing the fixes and answering your email. You can see how I work more broadly as a digital marketing expert on the main site.
Gaurav Singh Mehra is a freelance SEO expert in the United Kingdom with a decade of hands-on search experience. Businesses bring me in as an SEO consultant UK for senior judgement without agency overhead — as a technical SEO consultant after a bad migration, a B2B SEO expert UK when the pipeline needs demand rather than impressions, or a freelance SEO specialist UK for e-commerce SEO services, local SEO consulting and enterprise SEO strategy.
Not sure whether the problem is technical, editorial or authority? That's exactly what an audit settles. I'll tell you which one is actually costing you money — and which two can wait.
Request a Free SEO AuditSEO services for UK businesses — twelve disciplines, one consultant
Nothing here is a package. After the audit we'll usually find three or four of these are worth doing properly, and the rest are a distraction — and I'd rather tell you that than sell you all twelve.
AI SEO Services
Search results in Britain now summarise before they link. I build the entity signals, structured data and evidence trail that get a brand surfaced by Google's AI systems rather than paraphrased out of the result entirely.
- AI Overviews visibility work
- Entity & knowledge-graph building
- Topical authority mapping
- Weekly AI citation tracking
Technical SEO & Search Console Audits
Most stalled UK campaigns are stuck on something mechanical. I read your Search Console properly — coverage, crawl stats, Core Web Vitals field data — and fix what's actually suppressing the site rather than guessing.
- Crawl, index & coverage diagnosis
- Core Web Vitals (CrUX field data)
- Log-file & crawl-budget analysis
- Schema and rendering fixes
E-commerce SEO Services
British online retail is brutally competitive and margin-sensitive. I work on the parts that move revenue — category architecture, faceted navigation, product schema — rather than chasing blog traffic that never reaches a basket.
- Category & facet architecture
- Product, review & offer schema
- Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento
- Marketplace vs own-site strategy
B2B & SaaS SEO
Long sales cycles need different targeting. I go after the bottom-funnel and comparison searches your buyers make while building a shortlist, and make sure the site survives a procurement team reading it line by line.
- Bottom-funnel & comparison pages
- Buying-committee content
- Demand capture over vanity traffic
- Pipeline-linked reporting
Local SEO Consultant
For anyone selling to a town, a city or a catchment: the map pack is the whole game. I optimise the Google Business Profile properly, build the citations that still count in Britain, and make reviews a process instead of an afterthought.
- Google Business Profile optimisation
- Multi-branch & service-area set-up
- UK citation & directory clean-up
- Review generation that runs itself
Enterprise SEO Strategy
Large UK sites usually fail on governance, not tactics. I bring order to templates, indexation and internal linking, and give in-house teams a roadmap their developers will actually ship.
- Indexation & template governance
- Internal linking at scale
- Stakeholder-ready roadmaps
- In-house team enablement
Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO)
Being the answer rather than a link. I map the questions your market genuinely asks, restructure content so the answer comes first, and mark it up so Google and voice assistants can lift it cleanly.
- Question & intent mapping
- Answer-first content structure
- FAQ, HowTo & entity schema
- Featured snippet capture
Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)
When a buyer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity who the best provider is, something gets named. I work on the crawler access, structured signals and third-party evidence that decide whether it's you.
- AI crawler access & llms.txt
- Citation-worthy source content
- Third-party evidence building
- Multi-engine visibility reporting
Content Strategy & On-Page SEO
Written for British readers and British search behaviour — spelling, terminology, regulator language and all. Pages built to answer the question fully, then earn the click and the enquiry.
- Intent-matched page architecture
- Author & credential mark-up
- Content refresh and pruning
- Internal linking that compounds
Digital PR & Link Building
Britain has the strongest digital PR ecosystem in the world — national press, trade titles and genuinely authoritative publishers. I earn coverage from them, because those are also the sources AI models treat as evidence.
- UK national & trade press outreach
- Data-led story development
- Toxic backlink audit & disavow
- Brand mention reclamation
International SEO
For UK firms selling beyond these islands, or overseas brands entering Britain. Hreflang done correctly, market-specific pages, and an honest view of which territories are worth the investment.
- Hreflang & territory targeting
- UK ↔ EU, US & Gulf expansion
- Localisation beyond translation
- Market prioritisation analysis
Migrations, Penalties & Recovery
Replatforming, rebranding or recovering from a core update. I plan migrations so traffic survives the switch, and diagnose ranking collapses honestly — including when the cause is something previously sold to you as SEO.
- Migration planning & redirect mapping
- Core update impact diagnosis
- Manual action & penalty recovery
- Post-launch monitoring
Not sure which of these your site actually needs?Tell me what you're trying to grow. I'll tell you honestly where the leverage sits — free, and with no obligation to hire me.
Book a Free Strategy CallAn eight-stage SEO process in UK you can audit at any point
No black box, no proprietary methodology that conveniently can't be explained. You'll know what was done each month, why it was done, and what it moved.
Commercial discovery
Before a single keyword, I need to know what a customer is worth to you and which services actually carry margin. SEO aimed at the wrong half of your business is just expensive traffic.
Technical diagnosis
A full crawl alongside your Search Console and analytics — coverage errors, wasted crawl budget, Core Web Vitals field data, rendering problems. This is where stalled UK campaigns are usually stuck.
SERP & competitor intelligence
I examine who currently owns your money terms in UK results, why Google rewards them, and where the AI Overview is pulling its answer from. That analysis decides the plan.
The written plan
A prioritised roadmap scored by effort against commercial impact — which pages get built, which get merged, which get retired, and what a good quarter should look like.
Foundations first
Fixes ship before content is written. Speed, indexation, schema, internal linking and site structure, either by me or working alongside your developer with clear tickets.
Content, entities & AEO
Pages written for British readers, structured so the answer is liftable by Google and quotable by an AI assistant, with named authors and credentials where the sector demands it.
Authority & digital PR
Earned coverage in UK national and trade press. Slower than buying links, and the only version that survives both core updates and a compliance review.
Reporting you can challenge
A monthly view in plain English: rankings, map pack, AI citations, enquiries and where they came from. Flat months are reported as flat months.
The retainer everyone has been burnt by — and the alternative
Nearly every UK business I speak to has paid for SEO before and has little to show for it. Usually the tactics weren't the problem; the commercial arrangement was.
The standard agency retainer
- Twelve-month contract signed before any work is seen
- An account manager relaying questions to someone you never meet
- Blog posts published to a calendar, not to a commercial gap
- Backlinks bought in bulk from a spreadsheet of domains
- Rankings reported for terms nobody searches with intent
- Silence when a core update takes the traffic away
- Invisible the moment a buyer asks an AI assistant instead
An independent UK SEO consultant
- You see a fortnight of real work before payment is discussed
- One senior consultant, reachable directly, doing the work himself
- Pages built because a specific search is worth winning
- Coverage earned from UK press and genuine industry publishers
- Reporting tied to enquiries, bookings and revenue
- A diagnosis and a recovery plan within days of a drop
- Actively optimised to be cited inside AI answers
Freelance SEO consultant vs a UK agency
There are excellent agencies in Britain, and for a large in-house team with a big budget one may well be the right answer. For most SMBs and scale-ups, the maths and the access work out rather differently.

Get a Second Opinion99% Success Rate: Real UK SEO Success Stories
From a Manchester retailer drowning in its own filter URLs to a Sheffield engineering firm with eighty years of reputation and no visibility. Different sectors, same disciplined approach.
Homeware & furniture retailer
A £6m online retailer whose category pages were competing against their own filtered URLs. Google was indexing thousands of near-identical facet combinations and ranking none of them well.
- Faceted navigation rebuilt with canonical and robots rules that actually held
- Category hierarchy restructured around how British shoppers search rooms and materials
- Product, review and delivery schema deployed across the full catalogueue
- Organic overtook paid as the largest revenue channel in month seven
B2B payments platform
Strong product, zero presence on the comparison and alternative searches their buyers run before booking demos — and completely absent when those buyers asked an AI assistant to shortlist providers.
- Comparison and alternative pages built for bottom-funnel intent
- FCA-aware content review so nothing published created a compliance headache
- Entity and llms.txt work to make the platform machine-readable
- Named in AI answers for its category within two quarters
Precision engineering firm
Eighty years of engineering reputation and a website that ranked for the company name and almost nothing else. Enquiries came from trade shows and word of mouth only.
- Capability and material-specific pages replacing one generic services page
- Specification and tolerance detail made crawlable instead of locked in PDFs
- Accreditations and quality standards surfaced as structured evidence
- Export enquiries arriving from Germany and the US within six months
Independent estate agency group
Five branches, five inconsistent Google Business Profiles, and portal sites outranking them for their own neighbourhoods. Valuations were being lost before the phone ever rang.
- All five profiles rebuilt with correct categories, services and service areas
- Genuine neighbourhood pages replacing thin duplicated branch templates
- Review process built into the post-completion workflow
- Map pack visibility across every branch catchment within four months
Specialist technology recruiter
Tens of thousands of expired job pages were being crawled while the service pages that win clients sat unindexed. The site was working hard and ranking for nothing commercial.
- Job-posting indexation and expiry handling rebuilt from scratch
- Separate journeys built for candidates and for hiring clients
- Sector and salary-guide content targeting the searches employers actually make
- JobPosting schema implemented correctly for the first time
Heating & plumbing group
A twelve-van operation invisible outside its home postcode, buying every emergency lead from a third-party aggregator at painful cost per call.
- Service-area pages built for each town actually covered, with real local detail
- Emergency and same-day intent targeted separately from planned installations
- Gas Safe registration and accreditations built into trust signals and schema
- Call tracking installed so lead sources were finally measurable

The SEO consultant UK businesses call when the retainer isn't working
I'm Gaurav Singh Mehra. I've spent more than ten years in search — agency side, in-house and now independently — and I work with British businesses the same way I work with clients in the United States, Singapore and the UAE: directly, transparently, and with the numbers on the table.
Businesses tend to find me by searching for an SEO expert UK side who will actually pick up the phone, and most of my UK enquiries arrive the same way. Someone has been paying an agency for a year, the reports look busy, and nothing commercial has changed. The first thing I do is establish whether the strategy was wrong or simply never implemented — and I'll tell you plainly which it was. Where it helps, I bring in the AI-search side through my dedicated answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation work. You can read more about my background here.
A decade doing the work myself
Ten years across UK, European, Gulf and US search — running audits and writing fixes, not managing a team that does. You get judgement built from shipping, not from a playbook.
Genuinely current on AI search
I run dedicated AEO and GEO programmes and track real citations weekly. A great deal of what's sold as AI SEO in Britain is 2019 tactics with new packaging.
Properly technical
Search Console, log files, CrUX field data, schema, migrations. Most stalled UK campaigns are stuck on something mechanical that nobody has bothered to diagnose.
Safe in regulated sectors
No bought links, no invented claims, no tactics that would embarrass you in front of the FCA, the SRA or the ASA. Everything I build is defensible.
Measured in enquiries
Impressions aren't revenue. Reporting is tied to the calls, forms and bookings your business actually runs on — and flat months get reported honestly.
No handover, ever
The person who audits the site is the person who fixes it and the person who replies to your email in month nine. There's no chain of juniors in between.
Verifiable, not decorative
Badges don’t rank websites — but they answer the first question every UK business asks before handing over access. Independently rated on Google, Clutch and Trustpilot, and every engagement run personally.
Work out what organic growth is actually worth to you
Two things you can use right now, before we ever speak. Move the numbers to your own and see what a realistic uplift would mean — then check the five technical points that trip up most UK sites.

Five-point technical check for UK sites
The issues I find most often on British websites. Tick them off yourself — each one is genuinely fixable in an afternoon.
- .co.uk or .com — and is it targeted?A .co.uk carries a built-in UK signal; a .com does not. If you sell only to Britain on a .com, make sure your content, currency, address and internal linking make that obvious, since the old Search Console country-targeting setting has gone.
- Is your Google Business Profile actually complete?Primary and secondary categories chosen deliberately, services listed, opening hours correct over bank holidays, real photographs, and a review process that runs without you. Most UK profiles are half-finished, which is exactly the gap to exploit.
- Where is your server, and how fast is it for real users?Check Core Web Vitals field data in Search Console, not just a lab score. A UK-hosted or CDN-served site typically shaves meaningful time off TTFB for British visitors on mobile networks.
- Do your prices, dates and spellings read as British?Pounds not dollars, DD/MM/YYYY, optimise not optimize, and a real UK address with a landline where you have one. These are relevance signals for readers and search engines alike.
- Is your expertise provable on the page?Named authors with credentials, Organization and LocalBusiness schema, accreditations shown as evidence rather than logos. In regulated sectors this is the single biggest lever on both rankings and AI citations.
Industries I work with across the UK
Every sector searches differently, and several of these carry regulatory constraints that change what can be published at all. Strategy starts from your buyer and your rulebook, never from a template.
E-commerce & D2C
British online retail, where margin is thin and organic is the only channel that stops eating it.
SaaS & Fintech
London and the regional tech clusters — long cycles, buying committees and AI-assisted shortlists.
Legal & Professional Services
Solicitors, accountants and consultancies where SRA and ICAEW expectations shape what can be published.
Private Healthcare & Clinics
Dental, aesthetics, physiotherapy and private GP — YMYL sectors where credentials decide rankings.
Property, Lettings & Construction
Agencies, developers and trades competing against national portals for their own neighbourhoods.
Manufacturing & B2B Industrial
Engineering and export firms whose buyers search in specifications, not marketing language.
Recruitment & Staffing
Two audiences, one website, and a job board that usually devours the entire crawl budget.
Hospitality & Travel
Hotels, venues and operators trying to win direct bookings back from the aggregators.
Your sector not listed?Tell me what it is. If I've ranked something comparable I'll show you the work; if I haven't, I'll say so.
Ask About Your SectorCities and regions I work with
I work remotely with businesses the length of the country — from the M4 corridor to central Scotland. Dedicated city guides are being written; in the meantime, everything below is covered from this page.
Also working with businesses in Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Cambridge, Reading and across the Home Counties.
What UK clients say about working with me
We’d been told for two years that our filter pages were ‘fine’. Gaurav found eleven thousand indexed URLs that shouldn’t have existed and rebuilt the whole category structure. Organic is now our biggest revenue channel, which nobody here expected.
Homeware retailer — Manchester
What set him apart was understanding that we’re FCA-regulated. He reviewed every piece against our compliance position before it went near the site, which no previous agency had even asked about. The demo pipeline from organic has more than doubled.
B2B payments platform — London
Eighty years in business and we ranked for our own name. He took the time to actually understand what we manufacture, then got the technical detail out of PDFs and onto pages. We now get export enquiries from Germany, which is entirely new for us.
Precision engineering — Sheffield
Five branches and five different Google listings, none of them right. He sorted all of them, built proper neighbourhood pages and set up a review process our negotiators actually follow. Valuation requests have transformed.
Estate agency group — Leeds
Our site was crawling twenty thousand dead job adverts while the pages that win clients sat unindexed. He explained the problem in language I could follow and fixed it within a month. Straightforward to work with, no jargon.
Technology recruitment — Bristol
We were buying emergency leads at a price that made the jobs barely worth doing. Gaurav built proper pages for every town we cover and put call tracking in so we could finally see what was working. We’ve cut bought leads by more than half.
Heating & plumbing group — Birmingham
Four ways to engage — all starting risk-free
Whether you need one honest opinion or a long-term growth partner, there's an arrangement that fits. Pricing is discussed after the audit, when there's something concrete to price.
